PM Oli’s sensational claim, said “Yoga is our heritage and was practiced in Nepal before India was formed

As the entire world celebrates International Day of Yoga today, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has courted yet another controversy by claiming that yoga did not originate in India but in his country. In his address on International Day of Yoga, Oli said, “Yoga was and continues to be practiced in Nepal, long before the existence of India as a nation. Yoga did not originate in India. India was not formed when Yoga was discovered. There was no country like India because Nepal had many frontier states at the time of yoga’s practice. so, Yoga originated in Nepal or around Uttarakhand… We never gave credit to our saints who discovered Yoga… We always talked about these or those professors and their contribution. We could not defend our claim properly. We couldn’t take it around the world. Indian Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi made it famous by proposing to celebrate International Yoga Day on the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Then it got international recognition.”

The Nepal PM also reiterated his controversial claim that Lord Ram was born in his country. Oli had earlier sparked another controversy by saying that Lord Rama was born in Madi area or Ayodhyapuri in Chitwan district of Nepal and not in Ayodhya, India. He also ordered the construction of huge temples of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman and others there.

He said, ‘Ayodhyapuri was in Nepal. There was also a Valmiki Ashram near Ayodhyapuri in Nepal. Sita died at Devghat, which is near Ayodhyapuri and Valmiki Ashram in Nepal.’ The Prime Minister of Nepal said that the Himalayan country is the land of famous saints and sages like Patanjali, Kapilmuni and Charak. He said, “Many other saints were born in Nepal, studied and researched Ayurveda for centuries. Himalayan herbs from Banaras (Varanasi) cannot be studied. He said that after researching various herbs in Nepal, he was later taken to Varanasi.

Oli said, “A famous saint like Vishwamitra was born in Nepal, he developed many mantras in our land.” He said that it was the same sage Vishwamitra who in ancient times gave various types of education to Lord Rama and Lakshmana in Nepal.

The leader said, “All these were presented in history by distorting historical and religious facts but there is a need for correction… We have to rewrite new history.” We should not hesitate to speak the truth because we know the facts and history. No one can distort history.”
